Freies, gleichberechtigtes Zusammenspiel, in dem ständig neue Regeln ausgehandelt, entwickelt, bis zum Ende formuliert oder abrupt verworfen werden. „Zeitgenössisch oppositionelles“ Musizieren, bei dem kein Risiko des Scheiterns gescheut wird, sondern dieses Risiko geradezu herausgefordert wird. Es entsteht ein endloses Spiel zwischen vier Individuen, die es wagen, über ihre eigenen Komfortzonen hinauszugehen. Alles, was mit Kreativität, Wagemut und Neugierde zu tun hat, verbindet sie. Viele verschiedene musikalische Ansätze und Entwicklungen fließen in die Musik von Unity M. ein. Melismen und Rhythmen aus mitteleuropäischer Musik, westafrikanischer Musik, verschiedenen Jazzstilen, Einflüsse aus unterschiedlichen Genres wie Reggae und Popmusik finden ebenso ihren Ausdruck wie die entscheidende Gestaltung und Ausdrucksweise durch die Aufführungspraxis im Free Jazz und in der freien Improvisation. Fleischmann’s band. Gerald CleaverDrummer Gerald Cleaver raised in Detroit and is a product of the rich music tradition found there and also in his home. Inspired by his father he began playing the drums at an early age. Cleaver earned a B.A. in music education from the University of Michigan. During his studies he was awarded an National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Study Fellowship to study with drummer Victor Lewis. After graduating he began teaching in Detroit, and working at this time with Rodney Whitaker, A. Spencer Barefield, Marcus Belgrave, Donald Walden, Wendell Harrison and more. University of Michigan, and in 1998 also joined the jazz faculty at Michigan State University. He moved to New York in 2002. In 2021 he accepted the position of Distinquished Professor at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, California.
